Position Description

Under general supervision, develops new computer systems or modifies existing systems. Reviews system requirements with customers and prepares design documents using object oriented techniques. Designs table and file structures. Codes, tests, and debugs system from approved design documents, utilizing web and client/server techniques. Primary development environment will be the Microsoft .Net framework and C# programming language.

Typical Job Functions

* Provides consultation to customers. Interviews customers to determine system requirements. Analyzes and documents customer needs.

* Prepares and implements new or modifies existing computer systems or programs. Prepares design documents using object oriented techniques. Designs table and file structures. Validates design against customer requirements.

* Programs, tests, and debugs new or modified system from approved design documents, utilizing web and client/server techniques. Serves as programmer on project or sub-project teams. Primary development environment will be the Microsoft .Net framework and C# programming language, but other development languages and tools may be used as needed.

* Resolves system, program, and user problems as needed in production environment. Identifies source of problem, performs necessary modifications, and tests to ensure that problem is resolved.

* Prepares system documentation as required by agency standards throughout the development life cycle.

* Keeps project leader and supervisor informed of progress.

* Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

Applicant should have knowledge of methods and techniques of computer programming, the capabilities and limitations of computers and peripheral equipment, programming languages and operating systems; good oral and written communication skills; strong analytical skills; ability to work under pressure; flexibility to work extra hours or outside normal work hours if necessary.

Applicant must meet one of the four conditions below:

1. Bachelor's degree in computer science or management information science;
2. Associate's degree in computer science or programming;
3. High school graduation & 2 years experiencing computer system development, modification, maintenance, and/or computer programming;
4. High school education & 4 years experience in the information resources field

As an FYI for those reading this the first time - I represent the IT division for this recruiting effort, and we are looking for software developers, software analysts, etc. I’m currently the manager of the SCBOS program in IT.
