From Duncan:
The department has received grant funding to hire up to about ten undergraduate and graduate students to serve as outreach ambassadors to high schools (mostly in South Carolina) in hopes of increasing enrollments in the computing programs at USC. During the fall and spring semesters we will have stipends of $500 per semester. If we figure $12.50 an hour, that amounts to approximately five full work days per semester. A visit to a high school out of town would likely be one full day; a visit to a school here in the area would be half a day.
We would also be very interested in having students from this group participate in the Extended Learning Experiences held by the college, when students from high schools around the state come to the college to learn about opportunities in computing.
In addition to work in the fall and spring, we have need for a few (4 or 5?) students who would be willing to get started this summer. The stipend for the summer would be $200. One of the requirements for the summer positions is that you prepare a poster for a conference to be held August 10 – 13, at Auburn University. We anticipate that the grant will cover your travel expenses.
If interested, please send me an email.
