Position Title: Systems Support Specialist
Location: Columbia, SC (occasional travel to other divisional offices may be required)
Salary Range: $39,658 - $70,873
Classification Level: CL- 26 to CL-27 Depending on Qualifications
The United States Bankruptcy Court is looking for an IT professional to join the Court team. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is located in the Clerk’s office of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. Position requires the incumbent to perform multi-functions which include, but are not limited to: coordinating and linking computer systems within the court to enhance functionality, maintaining and administering computer networks, assisting in the development and implementation of short-term and long-range automation improvement plans for the court, performing data backups, and assisting in maintaining network security. Other duties include providing technical support to the court staff, judges’ chambers, and the public. The incumbent is responsible for first tier support of the court’s servers. Major responsibilities include performing proactive maintenance to minimize downtime at the system and database levels and providing recommendations for future enhancements or upgrades. The incumbent also works with software installations and support, hardware repair and installations, data communications, Linux based case management system, Windows 2003 Server and VMware virtual server environment, switches, routers, peripherals, Internet connectivity, Lotus Notes, spreadsheets and word processing applications, and training users to work with computer systems and programs. The incumbent will also be responsible for troubleshooting and assisting courtroom personnel on the usage of the court’s audio and video teleconferencing systems. This position may require occasional evening and/or weekend work.
QUALIFICATIONS: The incumbent must be familiar with all training materials and be able to process work quickly and accurately; be adaptable to changes in procedures; possess good organizational skills as well as the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and work with limited supervision. Good communication skills are necessary. Must be dependable, detail oriented, motivated, able to meet deadlines, and able to work in a fast-paced environment. Candidate must possess a minimum of two years technical experience related to Microsoft networks, Windows server (active directory environment) and Desktop operating systems, Web servers, TCP/IP, SQL (MSSQL preferred), Symantec products including anti-virus and backup software, Adobe Acrobat, WordPerfect, electronic mail, hardware and software installation and repairs, application support, data communication functions and training. Prepares and maintains documentation for IT procedures and technical support. Maintains inventory of IT assets and labels equipment, and maintains the database of these assets. Experience in a court or other legal field is desirable. An Associate of Applied Science Degree is preferred and two years experience in a computer related field or equivalent. Appropriate experience may be substituted for degree. Education/experience criteria may be substituted.
