I just got a phone call from the CIO’s office. They have an opening for a recent graduate with Java experience (which all of our graduates ought to be able legitimately to claim they have). The position is posted on the USC job website as well as under the CIO office job listings on sc.gov.

Get the Young'uns Hooked on Computing, and get Paid

From Duncan:

The department has received grant funding to hire up to about ten undergraduate and graduate students to serve as outreach ambassadors to high schools (mostly in South Carolina) in hopes of increasing enrollments in the computing programs at USC. During the fall and spring semesters we will have stipends of $500 per semester. If we figure $12.50 an hour, that amounts to approximately five full work days per semester. A visit to a high school out of town would likely be one full day; a visit to a school here in the area would be half a day.

We would also be very interested in having students from this group participate in the Extended Learning Experiences held by the college, when students from high schools around the state come to the college to learn about opportunities in computing.

Small Web Development Gig

My name is Zach Sykes and I own a Web design firm in Columbia. We're currently working on a project that requires some Web coding and we're overloaded with other projects right now.

I'm in need of someone that is familiar with ASP .NET code and I figured I'd open up the opportunity to a CSE student or grad student if anyone is interested. It's a relatively small project that would need to be complete in approximately a month and would pay somewhere between $1000 and $2000.

If you know anyone interested or could possibly forward this on to another department or listserve, that would be great.

They are registered with the Career Center, so details can be found there.

They are primarily interested in unix expertise, but they are also interested in Windows and in SAN. They do have a Unix Academy in which people can be trained. The Unix Academy has an intro section on unix in general and then a week each (or so) devoted to details of HP UX, AIX, Solaris, etc.
